Finishing My Degree

For most of my career and academic decisions, I was guided by a simple heuristic: What am I good at? What do I enjoy? And what keeps the most doors open? Now, as I reach the finish line of my Computer Engineering (Technische Informatik) degree, it is time to choose a door and specialise.

Exploring Next Steps

I would love to launch a startup, and I am taking the time from now until the start of next semester in March 2027 to execute on that. I want to spend the next six months shadowing on-site, learning domain bottlenecks firsthand, and seeing if I can find a tangible, defensible problem to solve that goes beyond just another B2B SaaS application or consultancy.

To stay accountable, I have structured my path around a post-March 2027 decision framework with three core options:

  • Startup Execution: If the discovery phase validates real customer demand and committed design partners, move directly into an execution, either bootstrapped or with grant funding. The focus is delivering finished, verified outcomes for specific workflows rather than selling complex software UIs or consulting hours.
  • Master’s Degree as an R&D Runway: If the direction shows strong technical promise but requires deeper research, prototyping, or network building before commercialization, enroll in a Master’s program in Computer Science / Business to continue building.
  • Strategic Employment: Finding an engineering role in a specific domain to build deep, firsthand industry knowledge from the inside. Working directly in production environments will provide the operational grounding to potentially try again and launch a startup a few years down the road with more experience.

Currently Reading & Studying

  • Designing Data-Intensive Applications (2nd Edition) by Martin Kleppmann: Deep-diving into the updated concepts of distributed data systems, transactions, consensus protocols, and resilient data architectures.
  • Enterprise Ontologies: Researching practical approaches to structuring messy corporate knowledge into semantic layers.
  • Agentic Architectures: Studying harness engineering, automated verification loops, and observability for non-deterministic software systems.

Location & Setup

  • Living and working in Osnabrück, Germany.
